Welcome to Kent County Cricket
Supporters’ Club
The General Committee meeting of 22 April 2010 decided on plans for the season ahead and considered arrangements for social events in the next few months. The now traditional dinners are to be held at Tunbridge Wells and Canterbury with the arrangements for Tunbridge Wells in the hands of Derek Barnard and for the Canterbury events, Tony Clarke. The Tunbridge Wells evening will be on 4th June to which invitations as special guests are to be extended to Darren Stevens and Sam Northeast. The Canterbury Week event is scheduled for the first evening of the Festival Week, 3rd August, with the end of season dinner on 7th September.
The first day of Canterbury Week will also see the moving wreath-laying ceremony at the Blythe Memorial. This will be during the tea interval. The Committee is inviting the recently appointed Bishop of Dover to join our President, Canon Chris Byers, for the occasion.
The meeting welcomed newly appointed Chief Executive Jamie Clifford, who updated members on playing prospects and progress on the redevelopment. The Club’s administration is offering assistance to the Supporters’ Club with the targeting and mailing of members as a way of encouraging an increase in membership of the Supporters’ Club. Further promotion of the 50/50 Club is also planned.
Canon Chris Byers recently announced his intention to stand down as President at the end of this year. The Committee is currently considering an appropriate successor to Chris.
In addition to the President, officers for the current year are: Chairman/Treasurer: Terry Hall, Vice-Chairman: Derek Barnard, Secretary: Keith Austin, Membership Secretary: Daphne Goldsmith. Chris Byers continues as the representative on the Kent CCC General Committee.
The Committee welcomes new members, for which the benefits include free copies of the quarterly magazine, a view of the cricket from marquees during the Tunbridge Wells Festival and Canterbury Week, and the opportunity to attend the Club’s social functions. For those interested in becoming members of the Supporters’ Club please contact Daphne Goldsmith, Tel: 01227 731630. e-mail: daphne.goldsmith01@hotmail.co.uk. The Club, founded in 1977 has as its aims, “to provide members with facilities on and off the field not normally offered by the County Club and cricket generally in Kent. To strengthen the ties between players and grass roots supporters and assist, where possible, players granted benefits by the County Club.”
